just the normal noises

Sarah Palin IS Margaret Meehan.

Here’s a short but well put piece on how the only thing more shocking than Sarah Palin’s proud public ignorance is the bizarre need many U.S. residents have for reflexively pretending her obvious inability to conduct herself in anything resembling an impressive or self-aware manner is not hideously, hideously embarrassing to both herself and her supplicants.

As my friend Jim Morekis pointed out: “Thatcher suffers from advanced Alzheimers, making it impossible for her to ‘bail’  on Palin as well as making Palin’s publicity grab all the more disgusting.”

So what is it exactly that prevents Palin’s most fervent fans and apologists from seeing through what many of us perceive to be a virtually transparent facade of “intelligent thought” and “rational behavior”? And why does their defense of her increasingly crass and nonsensical antics seem to increase in ferocity as time goes by and her approval ratings drop lower in the polls?

From my vantage point, they see themselves and their own failings and foibles in her. So, on a fundamental and unconscious level, they MUST defend her to the death - lest they implicitly condemn themselves.

I, on the other hand, see myself and my own failings and foibles in her as well, yet it makes me sick to my stomach that someone with as little business as (if not just a tad bit less than - haha) I would even consider conning herself (and others) into believing she’s worthy of such attention - let alone the highest office in the land.

The overwhelming majority of U.S. citizens have no business running most cities, let alone states, not to even mention the nation. That’s just the simple truth.

They (meaning we) are NOT QUALIFIED, and just because someone is an outsider or comes from a less pedigreed background does not inherently make them more “real” or “street-smart,” in the same way that a rock band hardly anyone knows about is not inherently “better” or “more legit” than one which is internationally famous.

Sarah Palin is not a “breath of fresh air,” as some once posited and many still believe. She is in fact a large, slow-moving, thick and fetid cloud of some of the foulest and most putrid stench imaginable - a fog of intolerance, false modesty and faux populism which only partially masks a greedy, dim-witted attention whore (yep, I said it) who’d much rather retire to a mansion on the hill overlooking the Land of The Dead than pitch in and get her manicured hands dirty with her “brothers and sisters” in the muck and mire of the poverty-stricken trenches.

She quite literally reeks of deceit, condescension and artifice - and the reason her followers and admirers won’t admit this is the same reason Keanu Reeves continues to get hired to star in major motion pictures: he is SUCH a bad actor that most folks in the business (and the ticket buying public) simply cannot fathom that someone so awkward, shallow and of such astonishingly limited range could EVER be cast as the lead in a big-budget Hollywood film.

Therefore, the fact that he has been MUST mean they simply are not sophisticated enough to appreciate his talent - and thus the charade continues for decade after decade.

It’s the Emperor’s New Clothes all over again. Watching Reeves act is like sitting through a high school play where the hunky popular kid in school has been given a plum role to stumble through in hopes it will motivate students who do not care a whit about live theater to actually show up, and watching Palin pontificate is like watching a cheerleader who’s been failed upward for several grades delude herself into thinking she can win the College Bowl. Or, in THIS case, “High Q” with Alex Trebek - I mean “Trebel.”
