A 1962 composition, this uptempo version was recorded live in NYC in November of 1994 by Bob Dylan and his band (consisting of drummer Winston Watson, guitarist John J. Jackson, bassist Tony Garnier, steel guitar, mandolin and dobro player Bucky Baxter, and organist Brendan O’Brien.
It is North American protest music of the highest order, and it’s one to ponder on this Memorial Day, when we salute our troops for their noble sacrifices, while many of us wish fervently for the day when such a job is completely unnecessary.
